About Rootless in Italy
Ciao and welcome!
Rootless in Italy isn’t your typical guide to living abroad. If you’re expecting perfectly polished tips on how to navigate Italian life, Instagram-worthy moments, or advice on the best places to visit, this probably isn’t for you. But if you’re looking for the real, messy, humility-filled and sometimes hilarious side of living in Italy as a foreigner, then you’ve come to the right place.
Living in Italy as a foreigner is an adventure, but it’s not always a glamorous one. From struggling with language barriers to figuring out how to fix things in old, historic homes (spoiler: we don’t always know what we’re doing), the journey is filled with unexpected moments that I can’t wait to share.
Here’s a taste of what you can expect when you subscribe:
Life as Foreigners in Italy
Living in Italy means embracing the unknown. From mispronouncing street names in our tiny town to trying to fit in and deciphering the garbage code of conduct, there’s never a dull moment. Whether it’s feeding an army of stray cats or getting caught in a miscommunication, I’ll take you along for the ride.
Parenting a “Third Culture Kid”
Our daughter is growing up between the U.S., the Czech Republic, and Italy. She's got more stamps in her passport than most adults I know (and I may be a little jealous of her childhood). Raising a kid in this mix of cultures means a lot of hilarious and awkward moments. Like the time she yelled “Buongiorno!!!” to a stadium full of people at a hockey game in Prague. Yep, that kind of moment.
Home Renovation Adventures
We’ve bought a few old properties in Italy, and we’re doing our best not to destroy them (or ourselves) while turning them into something special. But navigating cracked walls, sketchy wiring, and the occasional “How the hell do we fix this?” moment has made for some interesting stories, and I’ll be sharing every part of the process with you.
Rootless in Italy isn’t always about giving you a list of “must-know” phrases or how to seamlessly blend into Italian society (because let’s face it, that’s not reality). Instead, it’s about embracing the chaos, learning as we go, and sharing the highs, the lows, and everything in between.
If you’re here for a laugh, some real talk about life as a foreigner, or just want to see what happens when you try to renovate an old house in Italy, you’ve found your people.
So, if you’re curious about how we’re navigating all of this—or just want to laugh at our mishaps—hit that subscribe button, and let’s build this unconventional life in Italy together.
Thanks for stopping by!
Cheers,
Cassandra
